Adidas miAdidas

One of the most iconic logos on sport shoes and sportswear is the three stripes or parallel bars of the acclaimed sports brand Adidas. The name Adidas was derived from its founder Adolf Dassler. It is a combination of his first name Adi and last name Das. The company was founded in 1948 and is based in Herzogenaurach, Germany.

Adidas has gone through some major setbacks throughout the decades but has still managed to survive and stay afloat. They do constant changes and developments to make sure they keep up with the changing times and the demands of the consumers. Mi Adidas was one of the brand’s great efforts to give back to their customers – an opportunity to design their own pair of custom kicks.

Why has miAdidas been discontinued?

Adidas has announced in 2019 that it will be discontinuing its online customization platform, miAdidas. Production in its two “Speedfactories” in Ansbach and Atlanta will also be discontinued by April 2020 at the latest. The company plans to redirect resources and manpower towards modernizing its remaining supplier factories and implementing 4D technology in shoe production. This move comes as a surprise to many, as the concept of fully automated factories was novel and designed to increase efficiency. However, it seems that Adidas has decided to focus on other areas of production in order to stay ahead of the competition. Only time will tell if this decision will pay off for the company in the long run.

Adidas has long been one of the leaders in customization, allowing consumers to design their own shoes with the miAdidas service. However, Adidas has made the strategic decision to close miAdidas in order to focus on co-creation. With co-creation, consumers will have an even deeper level of involvement in the creation of their products. They will be able to work with designers to create unique products that are tailored to their individual preferences. This new level of customization will allow Adidas to better meet the needs of its consumers and provide them with an even better digital experience. While miAdidas was a great service, Adidas seems to believe that the future of customization lies in co-creation.

What was miAdidas?

There were over 150 customizable shoes offered on the miAdidas website, ranging from the originals like the Samba and Superstar to golf shoes and outdoor shoes. miAdidas also offered a few customizable pairs for kids with cute designs. The kids’ shoes were priced at $50, while adult-sized shoes had a price range of $85 – $260.

While the Adidas website did offer a great number of customizable shoes as well as customizable shoe parts, their miAdidas DIY shoe design tool needed a bit of patience. First off, it took a while to load especially when doing a zoom in and out on the product. Secondly, there could be a little confusion for first time users in the customization because there was no set sequencing for the steps during the whole process. Unlike other DIY systems, the steps were not numbered so you were able to design any part at any time.

You were able to customize many different parts of the shoe, including the rear and front quarters, stripes and heel cap, stitching, lining, laces, toe cap, tongue, eyelets and outsoles. Further personalization was also possible by adding lace jewels, sports team logos or personal ID text, all at no additional charge. Prints such as polka dots, camo and street art could also be incorporated into the design. The product image provided a good representation of your chosen design styles. Overall, the miAdidas website offered a great range of customization options for its shoes, making it easy to find a design that suit your personal taste.

miAdidas production and delivery time

miAdidas Custom ShoesProduction and delivery took 3 to 4 weeks and they had a flat rate fee of $12 for shipping. UK customers have been able to order via the UK website www.adidas.co.uk/customise and other countries had the same option to place international orders on the respective Adidas website of their country. Unfortunately Adidas does not ship to APO, FPO and PO Boxes.

Because each product was made individually according to your own selection, returns and exchanges were not accepted except for reasons of manufacturing defects.

miAdidas customized kicks were always cool and very wearable. As long as you had a good, imaginative eye for style, you were able to create a one-of-a-kind pair of custom shoes that showcases your taste. Despite some minor flaws in their DIY design software, the miAdidas website offered the essential tools to make a good design.

miAdidas alternatives for custom shoes
